This is a scratch made wooden child’s tricycle, with a label for ‘T. B. Rayl Co., Detroit’. Research has found that this company was set up in 1875 and operated a hardware store in Detroit, US. The store offered everything from stoves to baseball bats, but also woodworking tools. It is possible that this little tricycle was made to be used in displays in the store or at trade shows in the early 20thC.
A really interesting and tactile collector’s item, or for interior decoration.
